Lew Palter, the esteemed actor known for his role in the iconic film Titanic, has passed away at the age of 94 after battling lung cancer. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Catherine Palter, who announced his peaceful passing at his Los Angeles home. The Hollywood Reporter received the confirmation on Monday, June 26, though Lew had actually passed away on May 21, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Lew Palter, a revered figure in both the acting and theater teaching realms, had left an indelible mark on the industry. Widely recognized for his portrayal of Isidor Straus, a business tycoon and co-owner of Macy's, in Titanic, his character's fate tragically mirrored that of his on-screen wife, Ida, portrayed by the late Elsa Raven.

Beyond his memorable role in Titanic, Lew Palter contributed to numerous television shows and films throughout his career. His notable projects include The Flying Nun, First Monday in October, Hill Street Blues, and L.A. Law, among others, where he left an indelible impression on audiences.

After his acclaimed performance in James Cameron's 1997 film, Lew Palter chose to conclude his acting career and transitioned to become an esteemed acting teacher at CalArts School of Theatre. He dedicated his time and expertise to nurturing the talents of aspiring actors until his retirement in 2013.
