Authorities in Muskogee, Oklahoma, are investigating a tragic incident involving NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson's extended family. Police believe Johnson's mother-in-law, Terri Johnway, allegedly killed her husband, Jack Johnway, and their grandson, Dalton Johnway, before taking her own life. Authorities were alerted to a disturbance at their residence on Monday evening, and upon arrival, they observed a man dead. A short time later, a gunshot was heard, leading to the discovery of two more dead people.
Muskogee police identified the dead as Jack Johnway, 69, Terry Johnway, 68, and their grandson, Dalton Johnway, 11. Police Department spokesman Lynn Hamlin clarified that they do not believe the child is related to Johnson and his wife. Terry Johnway is considered to be the main suspect in this tragic incident.
Dalton Johnway, a fifth-grader at Sadler Arts Academy, is well-liked by both his teachers and classmates, according to Muskogee Public Schools. In response to the catastrophic incident, Jimmie Johnson's team, LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, announced the withdrawal of the No. 84 Caravan Chevrolet from a NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago.
NASCAR also expressed its condolences and support to Chandra Johnson, Jimmie Johnson, and the families affected by the tragedy. Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time champion and the only driver to win five consecutive championships from 2006 to 2010 hails from the San Diego area.
The investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues as the community mourns the loss of Jake Johnway, Terry Johnway, and Dalton Johnway.
